I cannot believe how quickly time flies! Is it really mid summer? I guess it must be, because next Saturday (July 16, 2011) is the 24th annual Moss Street Paint In!…and I am participating once again.

This year, I am told I will be placed between Rockland and Richardson streets, on the same side as the Art Gallery. See the map for details. I hope you will come and find me there, painting and chatting away, between 11:30 and 4:30 hat day. Let’s all hope for a sunny beautiful day.

    Going Places

    Posted in: General

Yesterday’s shows in the atrium of the Parkside Resort and Spa were such amazing successes that I am still reeling. The other two artists, Jonathan Gleed, Shari Young and I have been told that approximately 300 people attended the two shows. I was surrounded by amazing supportive people – families, colleagues, friends, and new acquaintances – for over 6 hours. Everyone had a good time, thanks to the beautiful location and hospitality of the staff at the Parkside. The whirlwind is over – until next time! – but I wanted to say a great big thank you to the Parkside, to everyone who came, and to those who couldn’t make it for various reasons but sent good wishes. I also wanted to recognize the wonderful help of our Marketing specialist Christine Gleed, who coordinated us and the Parkside and got the word out about the show. Also, to Lisa Panchenko, our Sales Manager who kept us grounded and on task and on time. And Kirk Young, who supported and encouraged and is currently plotting his next building project – Shari’s studio! We couldn’t have done it without you! Last but not least, Jon and Shari – you guys are just amazing. Your wings are spread and all you gotta do now is fly! I’m so lucky to be here to see it. Best wishes, my friends!

    Elton John

Where else can I boast except my own webpage, hey?
Elton John stayed overnight in Victoria on valentine’s day, and it was my paintings that decorated his suite at the the Parkside Hotel. You heard it here first, folks!

    A New Year

    Posted in: General

I cannot believe how fast time goes! 2011 is here already!

I want to say thanks to everyone who made last year so much fun for me by working with me to show my paintings in 2010, as well as those of you who bought paintings from me! Without you, the show could not go on! And the shows at the Parkside in April and July, the Moss Street Paint In, the little gathering in November…all of these things make painting just that much more fun for me, so thank you.

This year, I have a plan (no, really!). The Parkside Spa is housing my paintings coming very soon, and they’ve asked me to have some more shows too! So, stay tuned, because I’m planning three; late April, August and November. The one in April will be a joint show with my new friend and fellow artist Jonathan Gleed. I am in awe of his work, so now that his website is up and running, you must check it out!

This will all be made easier by the fact that now I have a studio space, in the old Xchanges building in Esquimalt which has been seismically upgraded and beautified. I love it. If you want to visit me there, all you gotta do is call me first to arrange a time.

    See y’all soon!

This Saturday, from 11 am – 4:30 pm, is the TD Canada Trust Moss Street Paint In!
I feel very happy with my location, about halfway down Moss Street, between Fairfield and Mackenzie Streets – right across from the Fairfield United Church on the corner, close to the corner store and just down the hill from the bustling Saturday market. Washrooms and drink stations are nearby. It’s pretty much ideal.

Plus (touch wood), the weather looks like it might cooperate and be sunny but not too hot! Why not start the day with a delicious coffee from nearby Caffe Fantastico in Cook Street Village, and wander up Mackenzie to visit me? Wear sunscreen and come and see all there is to see!

    Now for more good news!

The Parkside - Atrium Courtyard I hope you will join me again at 7:00 that evening, July 17th, for a wine and cheese and our second art show at the Parkside Spa and Resort! Once again I’ve teamed up with Craig Bauer, and this time Coral Clay joins in as our third artist. Come see our art in the Atrium, and wind down with us and a nice glass of wine in the beautiful Parkside penthouse city club lounge. Located at the corner of Humboldt and Blanshard, across from St. Ann’s Academy, the Parkside is only a few blocks away from the Paint-In itself, so let’s make a day of this! I think it’ll be fun. I hope to see you there!

Flotsam and Jetsam (18 x 36") Well, I am an artist, not a computer person. That’s all I can say.
Check out the newest updates to my 2010 Portfolio page; I’ve added 12 paintings so far this year, and more to come…eventually.

Mark your calendars, everyone! This year’s Moss Street Paint In, (hosted by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, and sponsored by TD Canada Trust) is set to happen on July 17, with new extended hours from 11 am until 4:30 pm. I have been invited to participate, and I have accepted, so I hope to see you there!

For those of you who have never been to this event, it’s a riot. Moss Street gets closed to vehicles from Dallas Road to Fort Street (about 20 blocks), and open only to pedestrian traffic. The street is lined on either side with artists painting, sculpting, dancing, and, as usual, being more than a little odd. It attracts 30,000-40,000 people each year, so the people watching is worth it even if you aren’t a fan of the arts. But if you are, you get to talk to and watch your favorite artists do their thing, and if you’re really gung-ho, you could even vote on your favorites at the event. Check out the link for all the stuff that goes on, and be sure to check back to my blog in a few weeks for an update from me as to where they’re putting me on the street. See you there!

I am very pleased to have been invited back the The Parkside Earth Day lights out celebration this coming Thursday, April 22, 2010! I am putting up 7 paintings, most of which are new, never-before-seen creations! Well, one is an older, rarely-seen creation – but it still fits because I wanted to show some of my favorite parts of this Earth for the celebration! I’m interested to see how the paintings will appear by LED and candlelight? I hope you’ll join us!

If you can’t make it, please join in the celebration remotely and turn off the power for an hour! And stay tuned for my 2010 portfolio, soon to be uploaded, in about 2 weeks’ time!

    Christmas Day

    Posted in: General

    Dear Debbie:
Sean and I did our best to get the paintings to Calgary for Christmas but the frame shop couldn’t get them done in time. It is Christmas, after all. So, as a Plan B, we thought we’d try to stuff your stocking with a little print of each of the paintings you are being given for a Christmas gift, but Canada Post has done something with them, and you’ll probably get them a few days AFTER Christmas. Tuesday afternoon, my Aunt Fanny! Actually, Sean will get them, because I sent them to his office in an attempt to be sneaky.

At any rate, Sean did listen to you when you told him which ones you liked, and he bought them immediately. Check check. Red dots. And this is what he got you for Christmas:
the forest and the tree (18 x 72")Shadow and Light
    Autumn Forest (16 x 20) sRGB DPITwilight On Chesterman (16 x 20) sRGB DPI

Merry Christmas to this wonderful family: Debbie, Sean, Brianne, Jenay, Jonah, Toby, and Charlie. I love you and miss you all.
    XOXO
